Just bought it, haven't listened to it fully yet. But Paul's face in the group photo made me giggle.

And yeah, that riff is monstrous.

I meant that the latest album is derivative of their older material. Cannibal Corpse itself has a distinct style that, as many people have already said, nobody really sounds like.

Well I really like it. Alex Webster was right when he said they were trying to make every song stand out on its own. I think they accomplished that perfectly. The production job is awesome as far as every instrument really bleeding through perfectly. However I think some of the leads and guitar solos should be a bit louder. One thing I always did like about their production jobs in the past was the brick wall layered sound that they kind of strayed away from this time. But you have to love the bottom end chunk that they get perfect everytime. Torture is definitely in my top five albums of the year. As I listen to it more we will see if it will derail Aborted or Napalm Death on my list. I still dont know what the big deal is about Scourge Of Iron. I think it is the weakest slow track they have ever made. There are so many better songs on this album. Once I have gotten to know this album better and really digest it is when I will be able to tell you If I like more then Evisceration Plague or even if its as good as an album like Bloodthirst.

My favorite songs are Sarcophagic Frenzy, As Deep As The Knife Will Go, Intestinal Crank, Fallowed Home Then Killed, The Strangulation Chair, Caged... Contorted, Crucifier Avenged.

Listening to my copy now from front to back. I'm really impressed so far (The Strangulation Chair is playing as I type this). On one hand, it's classic 'Corpse, but it feels...distilled to me. These compositions-

That bass solo in Strangulation Chair just caught me by surprise. Completely out of left field but I love it.

-anyway, these compositions feel unified, yet distinct from one another. It's traditional CC, but I can definitely see these riffs making this one of my favourite efforts from this band. We'll see how it holds up on repeat listens.

It's standard Cannibal Corpse: whether that's a good thing or bad thing is up to you.

I'm going to be in the minority and say I'm not a fan of Corpsegrinder anymore. He sounds like he's going through the motions on every song, like a death metal robot. I think a lot of their songs would be better as instrumentals without his vocals on top.

Tried Tomb of the Mutilated...wow. Very different from what they sound like now, or even a few years later on The Bleeding. Brutal, gross and a fun listen, maybe because of that. I think I like Fisher better, though. I'll try Vile next to hear how his debut with the band went.

Listening to "Demented Agression," it seems pretty good...

Has no one mentioned the bass solo at 2:10 in The Strangulation Chair? Sounds as if Geddy Lee just railed a line of co*ke. I really do like the bass sound on this album, it's more prominent than it was on Evisceration Plague.

This album cracked the top 40 in the U.S. It's kind of surprising that it sold the same number of copies as Evisceration Plague, but it's nice to see Cannibal Corpse (and death metal in general) getting a lot more recognition in the U.S.

The album sold 9800 copies in its first weekend and came in at #38 on the Billboard charts.

Cannibal Corpse is a top 40 band now. Let that sink in.
