Could you please help, it would seem BBC TV channels are no longer available on Astra 19.2E tuned from Dordogne, France although I could recieve then last week. Does this mean I need to direct my dish to Astra 28.2E and re tune my satellite box

Webmaster

That's because your dish in Dordogne was aligned to Astra 28.2º East, not to Astra 19.2º East. There are identical frequencies in use on both satellites.

Is it possible to receive the satellite signal for 28.2 and 19.2 on one satellite dish as I would like to see English and German channels. I have some reception on 19.2 but signal strength not strong enough for German channel reception. What do I need to do. Does the satellite need to be realign and if so to what position. And would I be able to watch this from two Tv's in different rooms?Does anyone know anyone in Edinburgh who could do this. Thanks

Having watched BBC world news for long time on Astra 1 (19,2) SD I saw the banner instructing me to use freq. 11228 V 22000 HD from 1st of Oct. But no mentioning of moving to Astra 2 ( 28,2) or to stay at Astra 1?Please advise!

BBC World (BBC World News SD) left Astra 1 19.2º East (11597 V 22000).As you can see on the above list, since 1/04/2015 BBC World News Europe HD is on Astra 1 19.2º East (11228 V 22000).Also now you have BBC World News on Astra 1 19.2º East only in HD:

I am writing from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia( East Africa). I watch the BBc tv programs on Nile Sat and recently I encountered that the sound reception for the BBC program is so poor compared to CNN, France 24 tv channel, and other international tv channels. To listen to the news and other programs on the BBC, I have to add the volume of my 42 inch LG tv set to the maximum and when I switch to CNN or other tv channels the volume disturbs the whole neighbours. So, is there any mechanism in which you could improve its sound transmission to the standard with other tv channels ! thanks !!

Hi,I am living in central Italy. I had a discussion with another ex pat who said that he was watching U.K. free sat tv on a 140cm dish.I know absolutely nothing about satellite TV other than it sounds a great idea and one that would help with average internet TV coverage. In words that a Beano reader can understand, what are your thoughts before I spend any money and where is the best place to buy the required equipment.

Webmaster

Where and when that expat was watching BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, ITV 1, ITV 2... in Italy with 140 cm dish ?

I'm just moving to a new house in Normandy, France and the satellite dish is tuned to Astra 19.2 With my new French Philips smart TV, which apparently has a built in decoder, the channel search has found over 1000 channels, none of which are for the French or UK main channels, but mostly German or other countries. I've also tried using an external satellite decoder, which has found nothing and strangely tells me to check my dish. I want to be able receive the main French and UK channels. Is Astra 19.2 the correct satellite to use and, if so, how can I receive the channels that I really want?

Webmaster

Main UK Channels are FTA on Astra 2 28.2° East, not Astra 1 19.2° East.Main French channels are free but encrypted (FTV, free-to-view) on :• Astra 1 19.2° East » you need a TNT Sat decoder.• Eutelsat 5W 5° West » you need a Fransat decoder or a Fransat CI+ module (inserted directly into a compatible television set).

@BrianI would like to add that many French channels on 5 W can be received for free with a decoder that supports multistream. See en.satexpat.com/mis/ and wiki.openpli.org/Multistream

BBC has gone HD, and switched off most SD transmission on Astra as from 14 Feb 2023. There is now just one standard definition per BBC channel, and I can pick these up; but my channel search doesn't pick up any of the BBC HD channels. My box is HD compatible, and I pick up Channel 5 HD, but there's no sign of the BBC channels. So, questions:1. Do you need a bigger dish for HD reception? I'm near the edge of the BBC Astra footprint.2. Does the LNB need greater precision alignment?3. Or is there some other reason why BBC HD channels are ot detected?

Since a few days, probably 14 Feb, BBC channels via Satellite Astra East say "no signal" (on 763,764,765) But I can still get ITV and Channel 4. What is the reason? I live in the East of France and no problem before. Help please?

Webmaster

Several BBC channels changed their frequency or ceased in SD. Have you an HD satellite receiver?

Webmaster

@patlaUsually a DVB-S2 frequency needs a better signal than a DVB-S one.The signal can be improved with a bigger dish, more accurate dish alignment, more accurate LNB skew angle, replacing a faulty / inadequate for that dish / poor gain / high noise factor LNB...

BBC HD now uses 30000 Symbolrate and 3/4 FEC with 8psk modulation which ismuch more difficult to receive. In Berlin a 1,5m dish does not suffice to pick up all transponder signals 24/7. 10847 as the strongest one works from 8pm to 2am only. Some transponder like 11025 or 11055 don't work at all, where as 11067,11096 Work for 2h a day.
