Story

My owner is moving to an unsure location and therefore thinks it's best for me to find a new home. I'm a 4 year old neutered male Australian Cattle Dog/Red Heeler mix. So I have a lot of energy but it's good energy.  I've been told I would be an awesome farm dog to help herd some animals! And to be honest, I LOVE riding in trucks...I'm a great co-pilot!  And when it's down time, I love to cuddle and nap next to someone.  I have a big heart so I like lots of attention and love. I go into a kennel when told to, and take baths really well, but I do get a little impatient with getting my nails trimmed. All in all, I'm told I might be too smart for my own paws.Owners note: I will wave any fee for veterans and/or first responders.

Story

We have had Benelli since he was a puppy! He was our typical, energized pit! He grew up around an older pit mix (now 7 years old) & a tabby cat (now 6 years old). He is now about 3.5 years old. He is friendly to people & follows around our toddler. He loves cuddles & treats.Unfortunately, we have a behavioral issue where he does not like other dogs that come in front of our house & has gone after another dog. We are no longer able to keep him since this is the second similar incident. He has done great with our older dog and cat. But I think it’d be best he is the only dog in the home for safety as well as a fenced in yard.Over all, he loves pets & it breaks our heart to let him go. We are hoping to find him a loving home!!

Story

Odin is a very large Cane Corso (160+ lbs). He loves his people and is very protective of his family. He loves snuggles and thinks he is a lap puppy. He is good with older children but he is extremely uncomfortable around infants/toddlers. Currently lives with an older child and newborn. He would do best in a home without other dogs as he is reactive. With the proper training/introduction he can live with other dogs as he lives with two now. A home with experience in guardian breeds and a fenced in yard is a must. Odin is obedience and crate trained, walks loose leash, knows basic commands, is working on off leash recall, and is house broken. He will come with a bag of dog food, leash, 54” (xxl crate), and his dog bed.

Story

Meet Rand! This 3 year old Husky/Boxer mix is a gentle, calm and playful boy looking for his forever home. Rand is house trained, crate trained, and walks well on a leash. He gets along great with other dogs, especially ones that will play with him. Rand would do best in a home with older children and a confident fur sibling to be his buddy would be a plus too. He doesn't seem to mind cats, but can get overly rambunctious in play and would do best in a home without them.Rand loves squeaky toys, going for walks, and relaxing by your side. He's not a fan of loud, chaotic environments. Rand bonds closely with his people and thrives when another dog is around for companionship and play time. He'll make a loyal, loving addition to an active family looking for an affectionate and laid-back pooch. Rand promises to be your new best friend!Apply to adopt Rand at www.tailsofhopewi.org!

Story

Meet Blaire! This sweet, adorable pup has never had a home of her own and she is determined to find one. Her fur is as soft as silk, and it is a beautiful coppery, dark chocolate coat.Blaire recently made the long trek north from Oklahoma to Wisconsin with a rescue. She has settled comfortably into her new foster home in Fountain City, Wisconsin, without so much as a hiccup. She is now patiently waiting for . . . YOU . . . her forever, to find her and make her a loved and permanent member of your family.Blaire’s foster mom says this pup is just too darn easy. Rain, shine, sleet, or snow, Blaire does her business outside. She hasn’t had a single accident inside. She also sleeps the entire night, without incident, in her crate. Blaire is a bashful, shy pup, but once she gets to know you, she is all wiggles and kisses. She plays well with the resident dog and adores her toys and bones. Blaire loves to snuggle. Plastered tightly up to her human or on top of her foster brother are two of her favorite places.Sit, down, stay and come are commands she is working on.Blaire is young, intelligent, and treat motivated, so she’d be easy to train to fit perfectly into your family. Are you ready to meet this sweet pup? FAQs

Is it hard to rehome a puppy? ›

Rehoming a dog can be stressful and confusing for a pup, especially if they've been with the same family for a long time. While dogs don't experience these emotions exactly the same way we humans do, they may feel anxiety and confusion over the new situation.

How do I choose a puppy shelter? ›

What to look for when adopting includes factors like personality, health, behavior, size, and other important considerations. You should look for a dog who is friendly and eager to make a connection; a dog whose exercise requirements fit your lifestyle; and a dog who is appropriately sized for your home.

Which dogs are hardest to rehome? ›

As well as sighthounds, like greyhounds and lurchers, bull breeds in shelters really struggle to get adopted and find a forever home. This is often because they have a negative reputation portrayed in the media whereas this is seldom the case.

Do puppies cry when rehomed? ›

Most puppies are adopted when they're around two months old. After having spent many days with his mother and siblings, your puppy will feel disoriented in your house and when left alone (at night) he may start to cry. He is experiencing stress, which we would also suffer if the same happened to us.

What are red flags when adopting a dog? ›

If the person says a third party must deliver the dog to you, it's a red flag. If you aren't allowed to meet the pup in person before you agree to adopt them, it's a red flag! And if the person with the dog says the animal must be shipped to you and you must pay upfront, it's also a red flag!

How to pass a pet adoption interview? ›

Ask a Lot of Questions

The rescue wants to know that you're committed to providing a forever home. Put together a list of questions you have about the animal. You'll want to ask about any behavioral or health issues that will need to be addressed and be prepared to explain how you'll handle them.

Is it better to get a puppy or a rescue? ›

Some people don't have the time or patience to train a puppy or to go through it's teething stage. Such people are better off getting an animal from a shelter. Many such dogs have already been housebroken and trained to do many things and they are the most loyal dogs imaginable.

What is the best age to rehome a puppy? ›

The ideal time

The exact time that is best for a puppy to go to its new home can vary by situation, but most breeders and veterinarians agree that 8 weeks of age is a good minimum. Some states have laws in place preventing puppies from being sold any earlier.

How does a puppy feel when rehomed? ›

Sadness and Feelings of Loneliness

These are normal as the dog is not used to its new environment. Sometimes, it may cry or whine. Also, feelings of reluctance and shyness are not uncommon.

Do dogs miss when you rehome them? ›

Some dogs might show signs of missing their previous owner, like searching around the house, being less active, or showing less interest in food or play. They're trying to figure out where their old friend has gone. But here's the heartwarming part: dogs are incredibly adaptable and loving creatures.

At what point should you rehome a dog? ›

Poor hygiene and worsening behavior may be a clue that your pet needs a change. Other signs that it may be time to find a new home for your pet include: Physical inability to exercise him properly. Inability to drive or use public transit to purchase food and supplies or take him to the vet.
