A Guide to One of Mabinogi’s Basic Crafting Essentials – Steam Solo (2024)

Overview

Weaving is used to make many ingredients for various crafts. Ranging from threads and silk to yarn and fabric, weaving is also a skill that awards a majority of a player’s Dex out of most other skills, making it vital for anyone needing more.

Introduction to Weaving

Weaving is one of the basic craft skills used to provide threads, fabrics, silks, and leather straps, amongst other things. These materials are used in Tailoring, Blacksmithing, Carpentry, Magic Craft, and other areas of crafting.

Essentials for Training Weaving

  • Tailor Talent: Using the Tailor Talent provides a 2x exp training boost to all Tailoring skills. This is vital as it will cut all training in half.
  • Sheep Shearing: This is the skill that dictates the speed in which you gather wool. Wool is used when making Thick threads, which are used to make fabrics and though string. – Item required: Blade Item (weapons with a blade)
  • Gathering Knife: Sheep Shearing is annoying due to the frequent motions the sheep tend to have. Training and upgrading a gathering knife can assist with the hassle by increasing your gathering speed, as well as increase the chance of receiving more than 1 wool per attempt. All upgrades can be obtained at Deian located in the Tir Chonaill Sheep Pasture. More than 1 is recommended.
  • Spinning Wheel: One of the major tools of weaving, you use spinning wheels to spin threads and cut leather. One is located in most every city and you can also have one on your homestead. I recommend finding a friend or guildmate who has one on their homestead for ease of access.
  • Loom: One of the major tools of weaving, you can use looms to weave fabrics and silks using thick and thin threads. One must understand that fabrics and silks have a RNG (Random Number Generator) chance for quality, so multiple attempts for a specific quality may occur. One is located in most every city and you can also have one on your homestead. I recommend finding a friend or guildmate who has one on their homestead for ease of access.
  • Finest Silk Weaving Gloves: The most annoying part of weaving is silks. They require you wear gloves while you weave them and lose durability like mad. You will find yourself spending thousands of Gold just to get the quality you are looking for. It is highly recommended that you buy the quality weaving glove you need, but the finest will be required at later ranks. Hold off from buying until the guide states to.
  • Leather: Weaving is tedious without the use of leather to cut leather straps. Cheap leather takes up most of the training, but you will need all quality before this is over. Collect all leather you can find and hoard it for when you are ready to train.
  • Spider Farm: How-to Guide located below.
  • High Dex: Unlike refining, weaving gains no exp from fails. You want to aim for the best success rate you can with the highest amount of dex possible.

Optional Requirements

  • High Production Mastery: Production Mastery provides a static increase to your success rate. Each rank provides a 1% success rate increase. If this is already Rank 1 prior to training weaving then it will help greatly with later ranks.
  • Production Parties: Being in a party with other players with rank 1 production mastery can increase your success rate further. Check for production parties on your busiest channel or the party boards located in most towns. Don’t have to, but helps with later ranks.
  • Ingredient Hunting Skill: This skill is obtained by achieving rank 9 cooking and completing the quest for the skill. This assists with the gathering of leather, since a majority of training comes from cutting the leather into strips.
  • Weaving Reforges: These can provide a nice boost to training. Take a Reforge Tool and use it on gloves, weaving gloves would make it easier to obtain, to have a chance for a Weaving Training Exp reforge. The boost isn’t that helpful but it can cut some time and material cost. You can also get a Weaving Success Rate reforge to increase how often you successfully weave. High Dexterity can substitute this.
  • Harvest Song: This provides an increase to gathering speed, gathering success, and production success. Rank 1 can be achieved without it, however for better success rates this can help
  • Fragment Alchemy: This allows you to convert materials back into raw ingredients. Most, if not all, items made from weaving acn be fragmented. High ranks is required for more difficult items, but rank F can still assist with cheap leather straps, thick and thin threads from fabrics and silks, as well as wool and webs. Training this skill or having a friend with it will greatly speed up the process.
  • Walter’s Part Time Job: Walter is the general shop owner of Dunbarton. His Part Time Job can be used to train your leather crafting and braid crafting methods for free. You need many success rates to unlock more leather variants, so doing his part time job every day at 7 am (ingame time) can help save money and benefit training.

Tips to Remember While Training

  • Keep Every Thick and Thin Thread: You will need to make fabrics and silks later down the road. Better to keep everything you make that you don’t use to help train the later skills.
  • Monday is Crafting Day: Players gain a bonus success rate on Monday, so use this to your advantage for items you are having issues making. Gather ingredients all week and craft everything you need on Monday.
  • Buy or Borrow Storage Bags: There are bags designed to hold items like thick and thin thread, fabrics, silks, and leathers. Having these will assist with bank space. Not typically needed, but helpful.

Obtaining Weaving

There are 3 methods to obtaining weaving:

  • Complete The Basics of Tailoring
  • Complete Gathering Wool quest given by Malcolm in Tir Chonaill General Store
  • Complete Gathering Wool quest given by Lepus in Filia Clothing Shop

I recommend completing Malcolm’s quest since it requires less objectives and everything is within running distance of each other. You will need to equip a gathering knife in order to proceed and gather the wool as the quest demands it. You can buy a gathering knife from Deian in Tir Chonaill Sheep Pasture.

    Emain Macha Spider Farm

A Guide to One of Mabinogi’s Basic Crafting Essentials – Steam Solo (1)
To gather webs from spiders faster you can gather them all behind the big tree near the lake, shown in the blue circle. You will want to gather the spiders within the red square shown. Here are the instructions to gathering the spiders:

    • Step 1: Equip a Bow with no arrows or cast healing
    • Step 2: Get two white spiders to become aggressive. They will not attack unless you attack and will follow you around. You can tell aggression by the exclamation mark with no speach bubble.
    • Step 3: Walk the spiders to the middle tree near the lake, shown in the blue circle. If the spiders lose interest, but are not behind the tree, defeat them so that they respawn.
    • Step 4: Once the spiders are behind the tree, enter a player’s homestead, change channel, or go invisible (either by Elf Hiding or Shadow Cloak). Once you drop their aggro, run away from the spider spot.
    • Repeat Steps 2 – 4 until you gather 6 – 10 spiders
    • Step 5: Collect the web dropped from the spiders. To assist with gathering, hold Left Alt to access items easier. Remember to keep holding a bow with no ammo or healing magic

The spiders will stay there until killed or the server resets. Below is an example of a successful spider farm.

If you have a doll bag, you can summon them for afk-able web gathering.

      Details

Weaving materials are used in just about any crafting in the game and is highly recommended to have if one plans on becoming a crafter or needs Dex. Let’s begin our journey.

Training Ranks Novice – E: Raw Necessities

Introduction

The first few ranks only require you to make the basics of the skill: Thick and Thin threads. If you focus on only these you can skip the skill requirements for making fabrics or silks. Remember to save every thread ball you make.

Training Ranks D & C: Nerves of Iron Wool (puns, amiright?)

Because every type of fabric gives exp, you can gain exp every attempt, meanwhile silk only awards exp for cheap and nothing more.

Possibly one of the harder ranks in the skill, aside from the worst rank of the skill after this. Make all the braids and straps first. Best bet is to purchase Finest Silk Weaving Gloves and make silk, attempting for Finest Silk. This will help speed up training while giving a larger margin for exp rewards.

Training Rank 8: Most Abusive Rank of Weaving

Introduction

Rank 8 is the worst skill you will experience this entire skill. The only thing you can gain exp from is based on RNG. The price tag for the Finest Silk Weaving Gloves don’t help with the situation, either. Power through it the best you can. (No one blames you if you use AP to train the skill to 100)

Use the spider farm guide above and keep training the best you can. AP train if you have the ap to spare, as this will save the most money and time. In all seriousness, there is no benefit to training past the 100 exp, so… just get to that 100 exp.

Training Ranks 7 & 6: Still here?

Introduction (and congratulations)

Rank 8 is no joke. Regardless if you used AP train or not, great job getting to this point!
Ranks 7 and 6 continue the same method of training, with the exception of new quality straps to be made. Power through it, because everything from here is easy in comparison to Rank 8.

Training Ranks 5 & 4: Tugging the Tough Heart Strings (puns are back :D)

Introduction

Ranks 5 and 4 introduce two new materials to craft: tough string and tough thread. Take 5 thick threads to make tough strings or 5 thin threads to make tough threads. Pretty simple stuff to make, just takes patience to gather the materials. Also straps are still here!

Training Ranks 3 & 2: Strap Yourself Down, This is the End

Introduction

Nothing but strap cutting here. You can do this in your free time whenever you find straps to cut, but it is still recommended to keep the talent active as you do so. Keep at it, you are nearly finished!

Finest Fun Facts!

At the Qilla Base Camp is the bank manager Ethna, if you give her a Jasper that is between 2.27 – 10.00 CMs, there is a chance you could receive a stack of Finest Leather! If you have a bunch, try giving this to her to help train via finest leather straps.

Conclusion and Credits

Congratulations

If you are reaching the end of the guide and you have obtained Rank 1 Weaving then good job! Life skills to Rank 1 are impressive feats not many have.

From here I would recommend starting Refining if you haven’t, otherwise you can start Tailoring. Get Refining and Weaving to Rank 1 before Blacksmithing. Weaving will provide most of the materials used for both Tailoring and Blacksmithing.

Well done on getting Rank 1 Weaving. I hope this guide provided you with all the information you needed to assist with the long grind.

If you have any information feel free to add me on Steam, comment on the guide, or add me on Mabinogi.
